How KPOP Industry Sees Oh My Girl

It is a well known fact that many idols have openly stated that they are fans and friends of Oh My Girl. But, this extends to many people industry workers as well, many praising them for their beautiful personalities. Aside from having amazing teamwork, they were described as being kind, supportive, and respectful girls.

If Oh My Girl really are the mean racists idols that kpop twitter portrays them to be, then surely it extends to their friends and admirers, wouldn’t it? Or at the very least, would it make them enablers of racism? This is the disconnect that follows if kpop twitter’s judgement is to be accepted as correct.

The thing is, the way these celebrities and industry insiders describe Oh My Girl will always have more credibility than what kpop twitter has to say, including even Miracles. They are the ones that really know the members of Oh My Girl. Not just by virtue of them also being actual Koreans living in Korea, but because they are the ones to see who they really are behind the cameras -- and in spite of their mistakes.

Can cultural appropriation be a form of racism or cultural oppression? Sure. But there’s a whole world of context and relationships of power for this to be true. White Americans borrowing cultural elements from Native American people will always be offensive, because there is a history of violence and oppression between them. The same thing is true when it comes to White Americans and African Americans.Click here to read more about this.
